U (Unsatisfactory) Represents work below B- level. Not counted toward GPA calculation. Graduate

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the UC Berkeley GPA Calculator?

The UC Berkeley GPA Calculator is an online tool that helps students and applicants estimate their semester or cumulative GPA using Berkeley’s official 4.0 grading scale.

How does the UC Berkeley GPA scale work?

UC Berkeley uses a 4.0 grading scale where an A or A+ equals 4.0 points, B equals 3.0, C equals 2.0, D equals 1.0, and F equals 0.0. Plus and minus grades (like A– = 3.7) slightly adjust the value.

What GPA do I need to get into UC Berkeley?

Most admitted freshmen have GPAs between 3.8 and 4.0 (unweighted). California residents must have at least a 3.0 GPA to apply, while non-residents need a minimum of 3.4.

Does UC Berkeley count Pass/No Pass grades in GPA?

No. Pass (P) and Not Pass (NP) grades don’t affect your UC Berkeley GPA. They simply show that you passed or did not pass a course.

Can graduate students use this GPA Calculator?

Yes. Graduate students can use this calculator to estimate their academic standing based on the same 4.0 scale used in most Berkeley graduate programs.

Is this calculator officially provided by UC Berkeley?

No. This is an unofficial tool created for educational purposes using UC Berkeley’s official grading standards. It’s designed to help students understand and track their performance.
